Best of all, when you go to obscure places then cash can come in real use and is a must in case of an emergency. Some countries don't even use credit cards so an FX card wouldn't be much use there. It is always advisable to carry at least some cash on you in person while you're abroad for emergency situations, for making a phone call or buying a small item. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the exchange rate is good when you buy foreign money. In other words, when you convert your currency into another, you lose as little as possible in the exchange.

Travellers Cheques are great because they can be replaced if any of them go missing (or get stolen). For this reason they are great for peace of mind and security. Just ring up the number provided with your cheques and the company will issue you with new ones. Check that the travel money provider offers free ‘buyback' on any unused currency or travellers cheques when you return from your trip. This means that they will take the money back at no extra charge. Other things to look out for when choosing a travel money service is to think about whether they offer home delivery for your cash or cheques – and does this carry a fee? Most providers will charge a fee if the amount of currency you order is below a certain amount.
